Tigers and Verlander Avoid Arbitration

Posted by Bob Biscigliano in , ,

The Tigers and ace Justin Verlander found a happy compromise today to avoid arbitration. Verlander and the Tigs agreed on a one-year deal worth $3.6 million, the halfway point between the numbers the Tigers ($3.2) and Verlander ($4.15) submitted last month.

I wasn't too concerned with this particular arbitration ordeal, because I knew they were going to settle it outside like men. That was in Verlander's best interest too considering his performance last season.

Now that he's under contract for the season, he can work on getting back to form and Tigers fans will hopefully see the intimidating, hard throwing pitcher of '06 and '07; and not the lanky, "let's use just my fastball to get to 120 pitches as fast as I can, en route to 17 losses" pitcher of '08. If the June 12th, 2007 Verlander wants to show up occasionally, I'd be okay with that.
